Performance-based assessment of seismic-resilient steel moment resisting frames equipped with innovative column base connections

Many recent research studies have focused on developing innovative seismic-resilient structural systems to reduce repair costs and downtime in the aftermath of an earthquake. In this regard, dealing with steel Moment Resisting Frames (MRFs), works demonstrated benefit deriving from adoption both low-damage self-centring column base connections, terms damage residual drifts reduction. Although several technologies been developed direction, only a few investigated significant parameters influencing capability these systems. Within framework, present study investigates influence frame layout (i.e., storeys bays number) seismic performance, including behaviour, perimeter MRFs equipped damage-free bases previously studied by authors. Nine case-study are designed modelled OpenSees. Incremental Dynamic Analyses performed set 30 ground motion records while monitoring global storey-level engineering demand parameters, peak interstorey drifts. Fragility curves successively used evaluate structures. The provides insights use adopted connections for drift reduction defines boundaries their application. Results highlight that behaviour is particularly sensitive number tends increasing height proposed connections.
